Ladies Lunch

I saw this dress a few weeks ago in Target and I snatched it up immediately. I love the cut, the pattern, the sleeves, everything. Plus, its black and white, and a classic pattern! I know I'll have it for years and with a Target price tag, it was just perfect.

Today was ladies lunch at work, which meant 9 of us went out for delicious sushi! I work with a really amazing group of women. It is so fun hear about everyone's life events (3 of us our newlyweds, 1 is engaged, and 1 is going to have a baby) and compare stories. Being a newlywed I love swapping wedding stories, its amazing how we all had totally different events but so many things are so similar. We all agreed we are VERY glad to have our weddings behind us and our marriages ahead of us!

Timeline

Have you updated to the Facebook Timeline yet? I did this weekend and I've got to say its growing on me. One of the things I liked the most about it was looking at all of my photos from College and thinking how much my style has changed. I would have laughed at you, if my junior year you'd told me, that in 5 years, I would be wearing heels at least 3 days a week and jeans only on Fridays. In College I was all sorority party shirts and jeans, if we were going out, I'd throw on a cute top with my jeans and always converse all stars. Needless to say, I've changed a lot, and I'm very happy with my style evolution.

My sister and I went on a little shopping adventure this weekend and once I realized what a sweet deal I could get on this shirt, I snatched it up. I saw Daena wearing it and looking adorable last week and knew that it needed to find a home in my closet as well. It is super cute and I'm certain you'll be seeing it again, because I am in love with my tiny bird friends.

Pizazz

Today there was a big all staff meeting on campus for our team. Thankfully they made the attire casual, nothing worse than a half day meeting in the middle of campus on a Friday that you also have to dress up for. So since it was a Friday, I naturally wore jeans and since the meeting was in the middle of campus and that called for walking, I wore flats, and since I love to show school spirit, I rocked the burnt orange cardi. I have no reason for the sequined covered tee or the large cat pendent, other than I like to add a bit of pizazz to everything I do.

I've never worn this many sequins at one time before. I wasn't really sure I loved the idea of it, but when I found this tee on super sale at Ann Taylor last weekend, I just went for it. I may have been called a disco ball, but I owned it and loved it. I can't wait to dress this up a little next time.

Master's

Sometimes I think I really embrace my Master's Degree in Library Science, and dress like I should be sitting behind a reference desk helping people find the perfect Nicolas Sparks novel. My mom, however, will tell you that she would not wear these wedges while working in her library, but then again, she never did understand where my love of shoes came from.

Today I did get to use my degree though, so that was fun. I love it when I get to research all morning. My sister likes to tell people I am a professional Facebook stalker, which I was in grad school, now my technique a bit more refined. However, I am your go to girl if you want info on that guy you met online.

Down Pour

So this was Austin this morning, at Barton Springs Pool, normally there is a large sidewalk between the water and grass. Also, that grass is about 4 feet above the sidewalk.
We had rain! It was exciting! It was needed! And it was a mess! Needless to say, there was little time for outfit photos this morning.

Besides, this is what I was rocking on my way out the door. Woo for my raincoat and rain boots matching! Also, how about my sweet Saints lunchbox? My hubs buys the best presents!

Since my clothes were not the cutest, I thought I'd toss in a little Petunia, cause she's always cute!

Politics and Style

Nothing like style blogging while watching the SOTU. Man I love politics. Any who, that doesn't have much to do with my outfit for today, but oh well. Today was another "I had everything planed and at 7am it all fell apart" so I went with my go to, pencil skirt, print top, fun cardi. Boom, good to go.

To give the look a little extra oomph I put my new statement necklace with it, nothing adds glamor like a big necklace with pearls and shiny black gems. Thank you Banana Republic outlet for having such a fantastic sale!
Also, I found a place to sit for photos, pretty exciting stuff going on around the Compton house these days!

Longhorn

Today my outfit had a theme, and that theme was Longhorn pride! When I saw this dress, I knew I had to have it! Not only is is a great pattern and cut, its also the PERFECT color! Its cute now and cute forever at events and football games. Sometimes, living in the land of burnt orange is a great thing. Okay, most of the time.

If there is one thing fashion blogs have taught me, its never wear the belt the dress came with, with the dress. So I knew the moment I ordered this, I would need to find a new belt to go with it. I chose this one because I loved the way the circle looked against the chevron. I also felt this hem required heels, thankfully my favorite oxford wedges were the perfect finishing touch!

Tiny feet FTW

Has this week felt insanely long to anyone else? For a 4 day week, it sure felt like 6. Needless to say, I was super excited to see casual Friday this week! To celebrate, I went simple and floral. To be honest, I wanted to wear my PJs but I'm pretty sure that is frowned upon in the University Development community, so my favorite jeans and a soft cardi were the next best thing.

I love shoes and I have tiny feet, which makes my love of shoes all the more dangerous. Its really easy to find shoes on sale in my size, since very few ladies are a 6. Another great thing about tiny feet are Target girls flats. The sweet people at Target feel bad for the 9 and 10 year olds who have lady size feet, so their size 3 and 4, are in fact the same as an adult 5 and 6! Because of this I have a lot of Target girl flats.
They are cute, comfy, and $10, so if you have tiny feet like me, go sit in the girls shoe isle and get funny looks from other shoppers as you find the perfect pair of sparkly red Dorthy shoes! I'll be there with you, trying to decide if I should get another pair!

Southwestern

This belt is the most southwestern themed item I have ever owned. Maybe its because I grew up in Colorado and there was a lot of super tacky southwestern everything, but I've never liked the leather, turquoise, silver thing. However, this belt may have changed my mind, at least in terms of subtle southwestern elements.

The thing I liked about this belt the most, was it made things simple. I love a good LBD and adding this belt made a dress I've worn a hundred times feel totally new. Mix the black with some brown, by adding my favorite boots and bag and bam! outfit done. Perfect for a busy work day and a delicious lunch hour, these boots were made for walking to the new burger place right by the office!

January Sundress

January seems like the perfect time for a sleeveless sundress with flowers on it. Obviously, its still a bit cold, so a cardi and tights were also required, but it was nice to wear something springy. I also got to wear one of my favorite thrifted belts for the first time, yay for awesome leather belts for $4.

Have you ever had serious puppy withdrawals? Today at work I wanted nothing more than my sweet little Petunia curled up in my lap. It was a perfectly fine day but it could have been drastically improved had my sweet little pup been with me.

I mean, how could that sweet face not make a day better?

quick-ish

Ever have one of those mornings where you know exactly what you're going to wear and then you put it on and hate it? That was my morning, thankfully I was quick-ish on my feet and decided to give my new (to me) herringbone skirt a try. I'm not sure I loved it, but it worked in a pinch and I'm fairly certain everything goes with a good chambray shirt.

I wish I had something else interesting to say, but I don't have much. Today was about making phone calls and tomorrow will be about making folders. Ahhh fund-raising, the fun never ends!
Now I'm going to curl on up on the couch and continue reading Catching Fire.

Red Alert

Happy MLK day! I love a good government holiday, it means a nice leisurely day off. All I did today was finish the Hunger Games, run out right after and buy Catching Fire, and then go to the grocery store. It was an exciting day, let me tell you. Since we weren't up to much, I obviously needed to dress up a bit. I love my red jeans but am not yet brave enough to wear them for work, so this was the perfect solution. I think the lady in the yogurt aisle was very impressed.

Today is also my dad's birthday, and I wanted to send him some love! Happy Birthday to the man who did my hair, watched my fashion shows after every shopping trip, and would tell me when the colors in my outfit didn't quite go. He is the best daddy as girl could ask for!

This is my neighbors cat, she wanted to be on the blog and with her fabulous tortie coat, I couldn't say no.

Simple and comfy

My allergies are still raging, hence the drugged face in most of these photos, so today called for simple and comfy. This ended up working out because today was crazy at the office, running all over and dealing with the crazy temperature changes, flats and an over-sized cardi were the perfect combo.

On another note, people are still impressed with the Missoni for Target collection. Before 9am I had 3 people comment on my shoes. A huge shout out to my little sister for dropping everything and making a Target run when she should have been writing a paper to score me the little girl Missoni flats. You rock Goo-der!
