Your love is my drug

Today I had a work meeting in the am, so I wanted to dress up a little, but for goodness sake, it was 105, but with a heat index of 107, out today so I wasn't going to go with a suit or anything, so a dress and heels it was.

I got this dress over the weekend, woo for a 4 hour 50% off sale. I didn't have a gray dress and this is so simple but nicely cut that it was a must have. I also think it will transition really great with tights and leggings come fall.

I thought it would be fun to show you a bit of the Mister's style today. I think he is rather handsome, so I figure why not show him off.

Remember how excited I was about my sunglasses last week? Peter got new sunglasses too and despite being a little on the hipster side (okay, A LOT on the hipster side) I think they are AWESOME!! I am also loving his vintage pearl snap. The boy has some great style and honestly, I didn't really have that much to do with it!

These photos are to show you why we are in love

These were totally unplanned.

On me:
Dress: Old Navy
Shoes: Target

On Pete:

Shorts: Old Navy

To end, I leave you with the adorable Petunia Jean

I go back to black

Happy Monday.
This was one of those mornings when I just could not get out of bed, I blame the fact that I leave for vacation on Wednesday.
Woo for Denver!

This little black dress is one of my most favorite go to pieces. I can dress it up or down or not at all and it looks great. Today I went with minimal dress up. Gold flats and a statement headband were enough. The bag is fairly new and just the perfect size for running errands. Errands like picking up our new glasses after work! I'm always nervous when I get new glasses, but this pair is fabulous and I'm super excited to rock them for the next year or so.

This is just to show that while Petunia Jean and I are always adorable, we are not always photogenic.

Dress: Target (its $20, if you don't own it, you should)
Shoes: Steve Madden
Headband: H&M
Bag: Coach
Glasses: Calvin Klein (Tortoise Pink)

Casual Friday

Fridays are casual at my office, which for everyone else means jeans. For me, in the summer, it means a simple cotton dress and nice flip flops. I cannot for the life of me understand how people wear jeans when its over 100 degrees outside.

I got the cardi from New York & Co online's super sale last week. In the picture online I liked it a lot, but by 11am today I realized the way I styled it made it look a little like a lab coat. I need to play around with it a bit to make it look less medical attire-esq and more practical light weight middle of July cover up, I think a belt is in order.

See how much happier I am in these photos? That's because even a super light weight cardi is a terrible thing to have on when its 103 degrees out at 5:30pm.

Girl with the big bun on her head

Today I wanted to take things up a notch and for me that means wedges and doing something different to my hair. It turned out well because I would mark today as a good day. To top off my good day, my new sunglasses came in the mail! Not a big thing to most people, but when you've got prescription sunnies, you only get new ones once a year or so, so it was a big day and I'm really happy with them, so yay all around!

I've done buns like this in the past, but it had been a long time and I forgot how much I liked it. I learned how to do it from this awesome tutorial from the adorable Sydney, if you've got long enough hair, you should give it a try, it's super simple but looks very impressive.

I only used this bag when we went to dinner with Pete's dad, I think it might be a bit matchy matchy with the shoes, belt, and bag all being light brown, but for a quick trip to Torchy's Tacos I think it was just fine.

Sparkles & Leopard

I got this skirt over the weekend (50% off, yay) and am pretty much in love. Its looks like a basic white skirt, but its got fantastic little faint gray stripes and little silver stripes, which add a nice twinkly touch. I wouldn't normally wear the matching belt it came with, but I liked the little bow it added, but I now realize I might want to watch some bow tying tutorials to make it look a little more polished.

I didn't want to wear black flats, so I thought leopard would be perfect. I really like using leopard as a natural, just a little is enough to make any outfit a little more fun. I've worn a headbands at least twice a week this summer, its a simple way to make just having my hair down a little nicer.

Petunia came along on this photo adventure and of course, she had to stop and smell the flowers. Which she then tried to eat, oh puppies!

Hunt.Gather.Puppy School

This awesome vintage mustard top came from the fabulous Hunt.Gather.Style pop up shop I went to over the weekend. Going to the shop is what finally pushed me over the "I should start a Style Blog" edge. A lot of my favorite style bloggers were at the shop and seeing them in person and realizing that we were at the same event, all making things work for us, made me realize I too could show the world (or a handful of people on the Internet) that I can get dressed!

I wore the top with a polka dot pencil skirt. I've had hips my whole life and love how pencil skirts flatter my figure, plus they make any outfit look professional. The bag is my every day work bag and the wedges are my most favorite, seriously, most comfortable heels ever.

I am in love with vintage owl jewelry, but I'm picky so I don't have a ton of pieces. I got this one from Etsy about a week ago and just love him and I thought he would compliment the mustard nicely with his bright green eyes.

After work today we had puppy school, and since Petunia Jean is the cutest I thought I would show off my puppy school style as well.
Puppy school doesn't really require a lot, I keep it simple jorts & a tee with Toms, we run around a lot and you never know when a pup might have an accident.

Elephants on Parade

Today I wore a belt made of little gold elephants, but since we're new at this you can't really tell from the photos, but if you look really close you can see the cute little elephants walking across my waist. I love them.
This is what I wear inside, because its summer in Texas and that means all office buildings are around 65 degrees and while a sweater outside feels like torture, a sweater inside is a requirement.

This is what I wear outside, because its 100 degrees. Also fun in the sun are my disco ball like sequined shoes, its like having a party wherever I go.

P.S. this blog could also be called, Wow, Alta really likes Target.

What I'm working with

Welcome!
I'm so excited and I'll be honest, a bit nervous, that you're here.
I've been thinking about starting a style blog for months. I love clothes, I love shopping, and I love putting it all together, adding up the pieces in my closet like a puzzle. So it seemed like this would be a perfect fit, but I'm nervous because I'm not the type of person who draws attention to their clothes. I wear what I like and really only discuss shopping, style, etc with a few friends and coworkers who share a similar interest. I guess in a way that is what I'm doing here, I'm just opening it up to more people!

I figure the best way to start is to show you what I'm working with, so I've taken a few photos of my closet, which I share with my wonderful and very understanding fiance, Peter, and by share I mean he gets about 1/4 of the hanger space and his own cube unit under the left side.

The full closet, its long and narrow. The left side is all mine, its full of dresses, shirts, both work and casual, summer tops, some t-shirts, and work pants that haven't seen the light of day in over a year. I also have the back half of the right side, which is rarely worn dresses and many many cardigans, I am a librarian at heart after all. The top left is all purses and some shoes. Under the cloths on the left side is a six cube unit with skirts, leggings, pajamas, work out clothes, and hoodies, which don't get much use now that I live in Texas.

In the back part of my closet is where I keep my shoes. I have an admitted shoe problem, with well over 100 pairs. Yes those are rubber made storage tubs, or buckets as Peter's calls them, of shoes on either side of the built in. For a while I bought shoes because even if the clothes didn't fit the shoes always did. The other problem is I have tiny feet, anywhere from a 4 (in kids) to a 7, so when there is a really good sale, its very likely that I can find at least a pair or two in my size. Peter says before our next move I need to do a serious shoe purge and I think he's right, so we'll see how that goes.

A shot of my side of the closet from the back. I guess this shows that I won't be trying to do arty photos on this blog, as admittedly I'm not very good at it, besides Peter's excited to be my official blog photographer, so we'll let him try the arty stuff.

To end, I leave you with a photo of precious Petunia Jean, she's the only other lady around these parts and is my style assistant. She has a keen eye for shoes and knows just which bag goes with which outfit. She'll be popping in from time to time to offer her views on things and to just be adorable!
